Betsey Johnson's clothes are also fun, funky, feminine and fashionable. a sales and marketing organization designing and selling branded and private label apparel and accessory products to the retail and private label markets, announced today that it has entered into a multi-year licensing agreement with Betsey Johnson(R) for its women's jeans and denim related apparel products. Under the terms of the agreement, Innovo Group shall have the right to design market and distribute women's jeans and denim related apparel, such as t-shirts and tops, under the Betsey Johnson(R) brand name. The agreement allows for an initial four-year term with renewal options subject to certain sales levels being met. Betsey Johnson has signed a four-year licensing agreement with the Los Angeles-based Innovo Group Inc. to design market and distribute a line of women's jeans and denim-related apparel.
Launching for fall retailing, the line will consist of jeans, T-shirts and other tops under the Betsey Johnson label. The agreement allows for an initial four-year term with renewal options. The line will be targeted to better department and specialty stores in the U.S. and Canada, as well as to the Betsey Johnson retail boutiques nationwide. "We believe Betsey Johnson complements our existing portfolio of brands, such as Joe's Jeans and Fetish, very well," New York designer Betsey Johnson has built her longstanding fashion career by following her own set of rules. She's known for celebrating exuberant, the embellished and the over-the-top looks. BETSEY Johnson's boutique is credited with helping revive Melrose in the 1980s, and the designer continues to sell her dresses and tops throughout the world. But her premium jeans have turned out to be a dud for Innovo Group Inc. The City of Commerce-based clothing manufacturer inked a four-year deal in 2004 with Betsey Johnson licensor B.J. Vines Inc. to manufacture a Johnson line of jeans and related tops for high-end department and specialty stores. According to the licensing agreement, Innovo expected sales of Johnson's apparel to total between $2.5 million and $5.5 million, which would have earned Johnson royalties of at least about $1.3 million. When Fashion Week rolls around twice a year in New York, writers, buyers and stylists know the Betsey Johnson show will be a break in the monotony. Celebrated for her colorful, whimsical and vibrant styles, Denver got a taste of the designer's enthusiasm Saturday during the first local Betsey Johnson fashion show. In just under two years, Johnson has translated her coquettish take on women's dressing into an assortment of categories, all under license, including handbags, cosmetic cases, belts and umbrellas with Daniel M. Friedman & Associates; cold-weather goods with Cejon Accessories; watches with the Geneva Watch Corp.; footwear with Titan. Jim Haag, former managing director of sales and marketing at Jacob & Co., has left to become executive director of sales and marketing strategy at Verdura, the 67-year-old jewelry firm known for adorning the likes of Rita Hayworth, Katharine Hepburn and Babe Palely. That's a big leap from the custom-bling world of Jacob & Co. created by founder Jacob Arabov and clients such as Jay-Z and Pharrell Williams. Haag said Arabov's arrest in June on federal money-laundering charges had nothing to do with his departure. Arabov has pleaded not guilty to participating in an alleged scheme to launder more than $270 million in illegal narcotics proceeds involving. Johnson grew up dreaming of a life as a Broadway dancer. Her love of the theater and the costumes worn there were her first inspirations to design clothing. In 1965, Johnson landed a job as top designer for Paraphernalia, a clothing boutique in New York. She created clothes that reflected the era, from hippies to sexy, and that became her trademark. Her first store, Betsey Bunky Nini, offered her own label, Alley Cat, which set the trend.
