“Deuce” has spread its fever all over and has become the perfect candidate for 2007 Tony Awards. Opened on May 6 this year, this fabulous play is directed by Michael Blakemore. It began to run at the Music Box Theater in April and has many chances of grabbing a good number of credits.
The play is about two women tennis champions who are now retired. There was a time when the two made a strong tennis doubles team. The play reflects the time when talent overshadowed image. The real excitement starts when the two tennis champions step on the tennis ground for the big fight of rackets, the fight that is more than their life.
“Deuce” is special not only for its strong storyline, but also for the comeback of Angel Lansbury after a span of 25 years. Her fans are going to see their superb actress perform and once again give an astounding presentation. This play also stars the terrifying actress, Marain Seldes. She is the actress who exudes plain star power.
More than the story, “Deuce” is a must-see for the terrific performance of the two actors who command the stage in their own way. Lansbury turned 81 recently and has four Tony Awards to her credit. She has been awarded for her performance in “Dear World”, “Mame”, “Sweeney Todd”, and “Gypsy”. In addition to this, Lansbury won the nomination for Academy Awards three awards for her movies “Gaslight”, which was her first one, “The Manchurian Candidate” and “The Picture of Dorian Gray”.
Her 60-year-old Hollywood journey includes big stops like “The Harvey Girls”, “The National Velvet”, “The Long”, “The Three Musketeers”, “Bedknobs and Broomsticks”, “The Greatest Story Ever Told”, “Hot Summer”, “Something for Everyone”, “Death on the Nile”, “The Pirates of Penzance”, and “The Mirror Crack’d”. Do you know that she had voiced the character of Mrs. Potts in the Disney movie “Beauty and the Beast”?
No one can forget her stunning performance in “Hotel Parasiso” in which she made her debut in the world of Broadway, in 1957. Her other noteworthy hit musicals are “The King and I” and “Anyone Can Whistle”. Her last performance was in the year 1983 in the revival of “Mame”, which did not run well on Broadway. After that, she vanished from the stage for a good long 25 years.
And now, in “Deuce”, you are going to see her revive her magic. Even at the age of 81, her skills are as fresh as that of a newly born star.
So, if you want to see the real magic happen, come to see “Deuce”. Tickets are available on the internet and over the phone. It’s likely that you won’t get tickets at the box office. The shows are running house full.
However, you can still get tickets by dialing a number. You will not only be saved from the long irritating wait at the box office, but also get to see “Deuce” without much effort.
